GOOGLE HUNTS DOWN THE PANDAS

You may have heard that Google has changed the way it ranks web pages. For some reason they named this exercise ‘Panda', though no-one seems absolutely sure why!

The same could be said for the whole exercise as the result of the change has confused professionals and site owners alike, with uncertainty reigning not just about the results but how they were reached.

Suddenly, previously well ranked sites have been dropped while lesser known ones have jumped to the top of Page 1. Some say it may have been to do with the ratio of adverts to genuinely useful copy, perhaps too many back links which had previously been thought useful or even as simple as asking the question ‘would you trust this website with your credit card details'. Yes, Google admit they did use that with some independent assessors.

The result of this change has forced companies to re-evaluate their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) methods and find new ways to promote their sites.
